Starting Your Year Right
Can you believe it? 2020! A new year, a new decade – time for some new speakers!!
What can you expect to see from us at #FODSD this year? More content, more diverse guests, more incredible downtown San Diego venues.
We kicked off our speaker series with Dr. Manna Ko: Starting Your Year Right - Bringing Hope and Direction to Your Purpose! She is the author of 2 dozen books including her top selling autobiography “Made For More”, International Speaker, TED Talk Speaker … and she’s working on her second Doctorate in EdD Leadership For Change! One of her rare gifts is the ability to see people’s one-of-a-kind calling – and to know exactly how to help them step into that promise. If you found her looking at you a little longer than a passing glance, she was admiring the gold in you!
Dr. Ko provided us with 5 key takeaways to stand smooth and steady.
1 – BELIEVE – What kind of leader are you? The best leaders have hope. We can go 40 days without food, 4 days without water, 4 minutes without air and not even 4 seconds without hope.
2 – COURAGE – Rehearse your dreams, not your nightmares. Live with positivity, boldness and engage your heart.
3 – BEHOLDING – Honor the people in your life. Truly look at them and listen.
4 – BLESSED – Be a big hearted person. They are more attractive!
5 – PLANT TWO TREES WITH ONE SEED – Keep your mind open to new things and to the world around you. “When you plant a tree, you leave a gift. When you plant two, you leave a legacy.”

Our members enjoyed a family style meal upstairs at Meze Greek Fusion of hummus, pita bread, salad, chicken kebabs and spanakopita. If you have not tried their new menu, get yourself dressed and downtown right now! The energy is electric and the happy hours are not to be missed. Friends of Downtown San Diego is especially grateful to kick start the new year with one of our favorite restaurants in the Gaslamp. Thank you, Meze!
