Raise Scholarship Funds, Play Golf, Have Fun

FODSD held our 1st Annual Scholarship Fundraising Golf Tournament on Friday, August 27th, 2021 at the Coronado Golf Club. We are thrilled to announce that we had over 120 golfers and raised $25,000 which translates into more than thirty-three $750 Scholarships for deserving SDCC Students.

Scholarship applications open in September, the selection process happens in October and funds are awarded at The BIG Give in November.

They energized the event with games, giveaways and goodies on the holes, and entered foursomes into the tournament.

Tournament Highlights

Participants were greeted at the registration desk, where they were able to purchase Mulligan Packages. Golfers had a chance to warm up with complimentary range balls and enjoy a BBQ lunch before teeing off.

Our sponsors handed our 30+ Giveaways to golfers on the course. They made the round extra fun with lots of on-course activities and treats as well as a chance to learn about their organizations. Creative and useful items from golf accessories and snacks to adult beverages and gift cards were on-hand. Games like corn hole, spin the wheel and ‘putt the cup’ made the day even more enjoyable.

Special promotions gave golfers a chance to improve their scores while contributing to the Scholarship Fund:

Par 3 Contest where players had a chance to score an Ace and win clubs from Integra Golf
Par 5 Contest where players could shave strokes off their game making contributions which were matched by an anonymous FOD Member

Post-Tournament Party

After golfers came off the course and scores were registered, players and non-golfing friends had a chance to mingle and visit one another as well as SDCC, Foundation and past scholarship recipients! There was music, drinks tacos and raffle prizes. At the Closing Ceremony Dr Ricky Shabazz, Christine Baker FODSD President and Jessica Schatz FOD Scholarship Chair addressed the crowd and announced the winning foursome.
