Betsy Brennan the President & CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership shared information on how her organization operates, coordinates, advocates and supports new development and initiatives in our city.
It serves as the voice for an economically prosperous and culturally vibrant Downtown through membership, advocacy and public services. Predecessor organizations were established in 1927, and have since merged into the Downtown Partnership, who promote our city as a premier place to live work and play.
She stated that the Downtown Partnership brings together regional decision-makers with a shared vision for the future of downtown, connecting local government and development organizations.

A Unique Public Service
One of the most visible operations of the Downtown Partnership is Downtown Clean & Safe. This team of public servants are managed by the Partnership and is above and beyond those available through other government entities. They include:

The Downtown Partnership serves as a brand ambassador for our city, operating a Downtown Ambassador Center which contains demographic and other data and resources that is available to for those who wish to learn more about our city and opportunities.
Milestone Projects
Many initiatives are underway to help Downtown continue to evolve in the coming years. The Downtown Partnership is involved in supporting a wide variety of major projects, driving the next chapters of SD development. These projects are being developed in many parts of the city.
East Village
Cisterra is planning the Farkas development on 9th and G Street that includes apartments and an Urban Target Store, and on the Ritz Carlton development on 8th and Market Street. This project was delayed and has new financing. Construction estimated to start later this year
Marina
The Bosa–renovated former Palladium office building is complete, and Stockwell Partner’s Horton Plaza redevelopment is underway. Construction on The Shell, on the South Embarcadero, is nearly and will be ready to open once restrictions are lifted.

About our Speaker
As President and CEO, Betsy leads the Downtown San Diego Partnership, a member-based organization focused on promoting an economically prosperous and culturally vibrant urban center for Downtown’s residents, visitors, and employees. A graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, Betsy previously worked as Chief of Staff for then-Council President Scott Peters. She also held executive-level positions at the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, Tahoe Forest Health System, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and San Diego State University. She has served on several local nonprofit boards of directors, including her current positions on the boards of the San Diego Regional
Chamber of Commerce, the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, University of San Diego School of Law Board of Visitors, and the Columbia Community Foundation. Betsy and her husband, Eli, and children are grateful to enjoy living in and discovering San Diego.

This is nonprofit organization that serves as the principal voice and driving force behind the economic prosperity and cultural vitality of Downtown San Diego through membership, advocacy and public services. It also serves as the managing organization for several special districts including the Clean & Safe program that provide essential public services in the 275 blocks of Downtown.
