The BIG Give 2020 - Up Close & In-person

It was the best day of the year! We awarded $1000 scholarships to 35 San Diego City College students at our first Scholarship Awards Luncheon since 2019. It was truly a pleasure to meet these deserving students over lunch, recognize them, celebrate achievements and most importantly, present them with checks!

About our Selection Process

FODSD 2022 Scholarship Chair, Jessica Schatz worked closely with the SDCC Student Affairs Office to manage the scholarship application process.

  • Students complete an on-line application form that includes basic information, as well as write an essay question “What inspired you to commit yourself to your major and education at City College at this point in your life”

  • Application criteria is verified by SDCC

    • Minimum 3.0 GPA for scholarship

    • One semester at SDCC complete

  • Students that meet the criteria are invited to participate in an in-person interview with FODSD members

  • During interviews all students are asked the same questions and are chosen based on their academic achievement, short-term plans and long-term vision.

About our Scholarship Program

FODSD have awarded more than $750,000 in scholarships to students of San Diego City College since 2000, and are the largest contributor of single scholarships to SDCC each year.

FODSD does not stipulate how the funds are to be used, given that students have varied needs. This year many of students stated they would use the funds for books, digital resources, and living expenses.

The majority of the funds were raised at our 2nd Annual Fundraising Golf Tournament. Funds are raised 100% of funds from our donors goes directly to the students. Mark your calendar for August 25, 2023 and plan to attend our 3rd Annual Scholarship Fundraising Golf Tournament at Coronado Golf Course!

We’re so proud of these students!

We’re so grateful to contributors, donors and Golf Tournament players and sponsors!
