Reflections on 2023, Plans for 2024

Annual Meeting

As per bylaws, December 14 we met to review the year, vote for 2024 board, and share plans for new year.

Board of Directors

Secretary Christine Baker chaired the meeting, and started by thanking the 2023 Board of Directors. Special recognition was given to Crystal Bonetto, who has been serving as Venue Chairperson. Crystal has been a part of FOD for many years, and is well known and loved for her energy, enthusiasm, and for involving her daughters in the Senior Bags project.

Brittny Brown co-founded BridgeHaus, a property management firm, with her sister to deliver professional services to properties in our community. Brittny has been serving as Membership Chair in 2023 and will continue to do so in 2024.

Amy Taylor - is Director of Business Development for Staffing Theory. She has a PhD in Neuroscience, and is passionate about scholarship, education, and generational change. Amy participated in the 2023 Scholarship Interviews and will serve as Scholarship Chair in 2024.

2023 Highlights

Senior Bags

Lori Carpenter gave an update on this project. Two hundred bags were filled with gifts for seniors and distributed via Serving Seniors at the Potiker Senior Center in East Village. Several of the SDCC Scholarship Recipients joined in the effort to fill bags with gifts.

Bags contain personal and gift items. Members and guests will have the opportunity to sponsor bags in 2024 for $50.00 (the cost to buy items fof one bag).

Speakers

Tracie Hasse, review the 2023 programs which included Jordan Marks, SD County Assessor; Rip Rippetoe, CEO SD Convention Center; and Rafael Castellanos, Commissioner of the Port of San Deigo. In 2024 look forward to hearing from executives from:

  • San Diego Symphony

  • SAN Airport Development

  • Pure Water Project

  • Downtown San Diego Partnership

Leah Bently reviewed special events held during the year: Wine Tasting | Hard Hat Tour of Horton Plaza | Ribbon-Cutting at SDCC’s Knights Pantry food bank. And indicated that some evening events are planned for 2024. They’ll be announced on FOD Instagram and Facebook.
